Penders expects up to two recruits

The basketball early-signing period starts Wednesday and men’s basketball coach Tom Penders said Saturday the team has three basketball scholarships opening up next year, and they may all be filled.

I feel very good about our chances to get a very high level player and stay away from the projects, he said. We’re trying to get kids who want to compete right away. I think we’ll get one early, maybe two, and hopefully a third later.

Mike Sullivan of Insiders Report has previously reported that Shawn Davis (Memphis, Tenn.) verbally committed to GW, and David Hawkins, who GW was recruiting, verbally committed to Tulane University.

Yinka in Fort Wayne

Yinka Dare, who played for GW from 1992-1994, joined training camp with the Fort Wayne Fury of the Continental Basketball Association. The 7-0 center is one of 16 players who will be pared to 10 Nov. 17.
