GW competes at Metro championships

The GW women’s tennis team made several good showings at the Metro Championships in D.C. over the weekend.

Freshman Tracy Wei won the “A” draw consolation 7-6, 6-0 over an opponent from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

Susie Koggin lost to her UMBC opponent in the final of the “B” draw, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3.

“That match was an absolute thriller,” said second-year Coach Jeanne Gengler. “It went up and down for three hours.”

In doubles, Wei and Ghada Skaff beat a team from Georgetown in the finals of the “A” main draw consolation, while Megan Goldsmith and Ashley Lucia lost the “B” main draw final 6-8 to Georgetown. Koggin and Lisa Borromeo also lost their “B” draw consolation 8-2 to George Mason.

Gengler said Wei’s “A” consolation win and Koggin’s “B” draw loss were the best GW performances in the three-day tournament.

GW pitcher no-hits ODU

The GW women’s softball club team improved to 2-2 on the year Sunday after taking two from Old Dominion University.

In the first game, pitcher Emily Rabbitt no-hit ODU, and the Colonial women took an 8-0 win after a mercy rule ended the game in six innings.

The second game took the full seven innings, and GW prevailed 10-5.
