Whose ludicrous idea of history is the Mary Baker Eddy “This is a woman’s hour” exhibit in Gelman Library?
This thinly veiled Christian Scientist propaganda outpost makes a mockery of the school’s secular principles. The elaborate and expensive production of this exhibit, along with claims of endorsement by the National Park Service and pull-out quotes about women’s equality are all part of a smoke screen for the underlying message of Christian Science. The school need not have looked far to find any number of true American pioneers of women’s rights or suffrage.
I am not sure which is scarier – imagining those who gave approval for this exhibit as a bunch of bamboozled dupes or as recruiters of students to the religion.
