Flaherty signs new contract

GW alumnus and catcher John Flaherty (`88) signed a three-year contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays Monday. The terms were not disclosed, but Flaherty is being paid $1.28 million this season.

In his second season with the Devil Rays, Flaherty is hitting .280 with 71 RBIs and 14 home runs.

Men sweep A-10 honors

GW senior runner Jeff McCarthy was named Atlantic 10 Co-Performer of the Week, while freshman David Talbird was named Rookie of the Week.

McCarthy (26:17.30) won the five-mile race Sunday at the GW Invitational. Talbird (26:32.32) finished fourth.

The men’s team is eighth in the A-10 in the latest coaches’ poll, while the women are ninth.
