GW senior Jeff McCarthy placed first to lead the GW men’s cross country team to a third-place finish at the GW Invitational at Bull Run Park in Centreville, Va, Sunday.
McCarthy’s time of 26:17.30 in the five-mile race was almost matched by two Colonial freshmen, David Talbird (fourth, 26:32.32) and Matt Kascak (seventh, 26:37.30).
The GW men finished third out of 10 teams in their only home event of the season, behind Seton Hall and Radford universities. Last year, the men finished fourth.
Meanwhile, the Colonial women finished fifth in the 11-team women’s field. GW was led by senior Julie Ann Laurance, who placed a team-high 27th in the 5,000-meter race.
Georgetown won the women’s side.
GW runs again Saturday at the La Salle Invitational in Philadelphia.
