Club Roundup

Badminton:The GW badminton club had a strong showing at the Northeast Regional Collegiate Championships in Swarthmore, Pa., Feb. 21.

In women’s singles, GW’s Holly Raiter was defeated in the finals. Chrissy Carmody and Raiter lost in the semifinals of women’s doubles.

In men’s singles, Adly Yacob and Shahril Abas made it to the quarterfinals. Yacob and Syed Fadzil lost in the quarterfinals in men’s doubles, while Abas and Dondi Chiongbian made it to the finals.

Raiter and Fadzil made it to the quarterfinals in mixed doubles while Carmody and Yacob won the consolation final.

Women’s rugby:

The GW women’s rugby club won 34-5 at Johns Hopkins University Feb. 27. Andrea Cerbin, Dominique DjeDje, Sarah Marquis and Katie McGoldrick scored for GW. The club’s next home game will be at GW’s Mount Vernon campus March 21 at 1 p.m. against York College in the Collegiate Division II quarterfinals.

Ultimate Frisbee:

After a successful stretch of games, the GW ultimate frisbee club made its first-ever appearance in the Ultimate Players’ Association poll. The GW A-team is ranked 28th in the nation and the B-team is ranked 62nd.

The club traveled to the Presidents Day Tournament in San Diego Feb. 12-14 and won six of its 10 games.

GW started the tourney with an 11-2 win over Fort Lewis College before losing its next three games against West Coast schools. But the club bounced back with five straight wins over Fort Lewis, Idaho State University, the B-teams from the University of California-San Diego and Stanford University, and the University of Washington before closing with a loss.

The GW A-team defeated St. Mary’s College 11-3 and beat Towson University 11-1 Feb. 28, while Towson and American University beat the GW B-team.
