News brief

New manager to head substance abuse prevention center

Candace Miller was appointed manager of the GW Substance Abuse Prevention Center Jan. 4, replacing Dana Henderson, who left early last fall for personal reasons.

“As a department, we’re extremely excited to have someone of her credibility and experience,” said Mike Walker, senior assistant dean of students.

Miller recently graduated from Johns Hopkins University’s public health graduate program and was employed by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

Miller will provide information on initiatives designed to educate GW students about substance use and abuse, according to a press release.

She also will advise the Student Peer Initiative Resource and Intervention Team and will participate in the alcohol approval process for student organizations seeking to have social events, according to a release.
