Club Sports Roundup

Field Hockey

Goalie Maura Navin and forward Korin Davis of the GW field hockey club were named to the National Field Hockey League All-Star Team and will play in a tournament Nov. 14 at Virginia Tech.

Women’s rugby

The GW women’s rugby club won the Potomac Rugby Union’s Collegiate Division II title with a league record of 3-0, 4-2 overall.

In the spring of next year, GW will be seeded first in the Collegiate Division II playoffs and will host a quarterfinal match.

GW beat St. Mary’s College 29-12 Nov. 7 to win the league title. Before that game, the club won 22-10 at Johns Hopkins University Oct. 31.

GW beat American University 15-14 in its third game of the season Oct. 25 at the Mount Vernon campus. GW’s first try was scored by sophomore Andrea Cerbin. The second try was scored by senior Kristy McDonnell. Senior Danielle Barton converted on McDonnell’s goal and also scored on a place kick for a total of five points.

Sailing

The GW sailing club came in 10th out of 11 teams at the Area C Dinghy Eliminations at Christopher Newport University Oct. 24-25.

GW’s A Division sailors, Todd Paratore and Mish Hamid, finished sixth, while the B Division sailors, Courtney Flick and Sarah Murphy, finished 11th. Christopher Newport won the A Division and Georgetown University won the B Division. Georgetown finished first at the regatta.

GW competed against four teams ranked in the top 20 nationally.

Ultimate Frisbee

The GW ultimate frisbee club competed in its Fall League Playoffs at Salisbury State University last weekend. The men’s team beat the University of Maryland 15-11, then lost in the finals to Salisbury 15-4.

The women’s team lost to the Salisbury A-Team 13-7, then beat the Salisbury B-team 10-3.
