IFC cancels party patrol

The Interfraternity Council announced the fraternity party patrol will not come to GW as earlier reported, IFC President Neil Smith said.

Smith said the idea of the party patrol was sparked by a relatively new self-governing policy. As a result of the policy, members of the IFC executive board patrol fraternity houses during rush, Smith said.

“We’re going to look into alternative programs rather than the party patrol,” he said.

Smith said leaders in Greek-letter organizations felt education on risk management, rather than a policing unit, would be more beneficial. He said fraternity presidents expressed a desire to work with administrators on educational programs.

Smith said no definitive programming plans have been established. He said the IFC will serve as the channel between fraternity presidents and administrators.

Tracie Anzaldi, coordinator for Greek affairs and spirit events, said she understood the IFC’s reasons for canceling the party patrol, but said she would have liked campus fraternities to set an example by initiating such a program.

“I think there needs to be a University-wide party patrol because all student groups should be held accountable to the University’s alcohol policy,” she said.
