Minuses: It’s hard to get a table outside Fox and Hounds and Trios restaurant are snuggled together on 17th Street just below Dupont Circle. The bar itself is rather small, dark and smoky, so the best place to sit is on the large patio out front where seats fill up fast on weekends. Fox and Hounds doesn’t have a dance floor, but the patio is great for enjoying a few drinks with a couple of friends on a warm night. And it’s a great spot for people-watching on 17th Street. The bar is open until 2:30 a.m. on weekends, but last call is 1:30 a.m. on weeknights. Fox and Hounds has drink specials during happy hour (4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays), when all rail drinks are $2 and domestic beers are $1.75.

Fox and Hounds is connected to Trios restaurant next door and serves Trios’ food. But a better bet is to head around the corner to the Trios carry-out pizza shop, where pizza is sold by the slice until 3 a.m. The Trios carry-out restaurant also has a patio and is a great place to finish off the night with a few cheap pitchers of Budweiser. The pizza is inexpensive and tasty, especially after a night of drinking. Getting back from Fox and Hounds and Trios is a trek – expect a half an hour walk back to campus or a $5 cab ride. Fox and Hounds won’t provide the most adventurous of nights, but it’s a great place for a relaxing evening and sharing jokes with friends. And pizza is available by the slice right around the corner until the early hours of the morning – hard to find in the District.
