Record freshman class attends CI

With a record number of students and parents on hand, Colonial Inauguration started off smoothly last month despite a decrease in available space. GW hosted four of its five freshman orientation sessions in June and will hold the last from July 7-9. About 510 students and 380 parents attended each of four June CIs, an increase of about 30 students and 30 parents from 2003, reflecting what will be the largest freshman class in GW history.

Breaking news: GW ranked no. 52

Posted Friday, Aug. 20, 12:46 p.m. For the sixth consecutive year, GW has failed to place in U.S. News and World Report's top 50 national universities rankings. The University, which was ranked 51 last year, dropped a notch, tying Pepperdine and Syracuse universities in the 52nd spot.

GW to keep free newspaper program

Despite campus-wide budget cuts, the University will continue to provide free newspapers to students in residence halls this fall, though GW may reduce circulation of the papers. The GW Reads program, which stocks residence halls with free daily copies of The New York Times, The Washington Post and USA Today, was one of several programs that GW considered eliminating in April in the face of $4.

Update: J Street to reopen by late August, officials say

Posted Sunday, Aug. 1, 3:10 p.m. The J Street food court is set reopen by August 23 despite the fact that most dining venues are still far from completion. Only a new grocery store is close to being done, but University officials said the Marvin Center eatery will be ready when students return to campus in late August.

GW, Aramark sign 10-year contract

The deal was reached after Aramark officials presented plans to renovate the dining areas on the Marvin Center's ground level and first floor.

J Street undergoes renovations

Students will find a completely renovated and redesigned J Street featuring Wendy's and new Asian and Mexican dining venues upon returning to campus this fall.

GW in Brief

Ivory Tower venues to open in August As the Ivory Tower nears completion, four dining venues are being installed on the residence hall's ground and basement floors and should open to students in August. Occupying the facility's ground floor will be a sandwich shop accessible from the street.
