Disclaimer (the rant): Britney Spears: she's not a girl, not yet a woman. What is she then? In her new movie Crossroads (Paramount) she's the town whore. Keep in mind, we're not members of the religious right, or a group of anti-Hollywood activists. We're 20-year-old college males, and we like Britney.

On screen they like to cruise in impounded sports cars and screw with stoners' heads. The stars of the new film Super Troopers (Fox Searchlight) are a rowdy bunch in the movies. Off screen, their antics, though not as dangerous, are certainly as rowdy. These aren't your conventional comedy kings.

The Bar Belle has heard people talking. yes, she has heard the criticism about her choice of bars. Her advice? Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. Also, there has been much speculation as to her identity.

The red spotlight burns and a distinct aura of passion fills the stage, lit like a fuse. A building eruption waiting for release. In rapid succession comes a disciplined clapping and, with the utterance of a single chant, the stage explodes giving birth to a language of its own.

Consider it Columbia Plaza Dining Hall. As Sizzling Express opened its doors last Thursday, the grab-n-go chain newly located in Columbia Plaza quickly became the hangout for GW's Columbia Plaza residents.
With a mile-long salad bar, hot food buffet, pasta and pizza stations, deli counter, sushi bar and alcohol bar, Sizzling Express greeted its diverse patrons with a variety of palate pleasers.

Does absence make the heart grow fonder? On this Valentine's Day many students in long distance relationships will send gifts or wishes thousands of miles to show their affection for a "long-distance lover."

The GW men's baseball team mounted a seven-run seventh inning to cement a 12-2 win over host Norfolk State University in the team's season-opener Tuesday. Fourteen players saw at-bats and four pitchers saw time on the mound, demonstrating the depth that head coach Tom Walter has at his fingertips.

The GW gymnastics team posted its season-high total Wednesday night in a second-straight loss to visiting Maryland. Despite the loss, GW head coach Margie Foster-Cunningham said the team's strong performance signals an end to the inconsistency that has hampered the women in three previous meets.
Chris Monroe joins the nation's top basketball players including Duke's Jason Williams and Carlos Boozer, in being named to an annual basketball team selected by coaches.
When the University announced that it was suspending its contract with manufacturer New Era Co. Monday, members of the Progressive Student Union hailed it has a victory for their cause - a cause that champions workers' rights. Although it is commendable the University listened to students' voices, the suspension appears to be premature and based on questionable information.

GW's growing popularity is one reason for the unusually large tuition increase, budget officials said. Three factors drive tuition up each year: application trends, prices of competing schools and new programs.

I'd like to see Sarah Jessica Parker in a steel cage match with Vince Vaughn. I give it about five seconds before the so-called "swinger" is screaming for mercy and "Carrie" is cleaning the blood off her alligator-skin Mohink Blanc pumps.

With Valentine's Day here and no one to call my own for the 18th year in a row, I have decided that it is high time I change my plan of attack. Buying myself boxes of chocolate has lost its charm, and letters from secret admirers don't titillate when they arrive in your own handwriting. But I have observed that this desperation is not confined to me alone. It is reaching epidemic proportions.

Hey fellas, if your girl wants to get buck wild, then go back and hit her up style. Thursday is Valentine's Day and rather than bore you with my take on the holiday (see the Feb.12, 2001 Hatchet), I've decided to offer a little practical advice to the lucky ones who have a Valentine, but are still unsure what to buy their date.

Thursday is Valentine's Day and rather than bore you with my take on the holiday (see the Feb.12, 2001 Hatchet), I've decided to offer a little practical advice to the lucky ones who have a Valentine, but are still unsure what to buy their date. The answer: don't buy her anything. But if you are weary of delving through The Hatchet's archives let me frame what Valentine's Day is all about: moods. We at The Hatchet know because we spent last Valentine's Day putting out a paper.

Although several major news organizations have included a teaching stint at GW in former Enron Corp. CEO Kenneth Lay's background, no record of him as a professor exists at the University.
