Confronting University policies and battles with former GW President Cloyd Heck Marvin marked the beginning of the ground-breaking journalism career of Eileen Shanahan. The 1944 GW alumna and former Hatchet editor in chief died Nov. 2 in her D.C. home at the age of 77.

The GW women's soccer team lost its conference opener to host Richmond Saturday in a 3-0 shutout at First Market Stadium. The Colonials were out-shot 25-7 by the Spiders and leading scorer Kim Warner was held to one shot.

Although several major news organizations have included a teaching stint at GW in former Enron Corp. CEO Kenneth Lay's background, no record of him as a professor exists at the University. At least one GW alumnus has authentic ties to the scandal. Leslie Caldwell, who earned her law degree at GW, is lead prosecutor in charge of investigating the now defunct energy-trading giant.

Society of Professional Journalists - Region 2 Announces Mark of Excellence Winners

WASHINGTON, DC: The GW Hatchet won seven awards, including three 1st places, recently from the Society of Professional Journalists' Region 2 Mark of Excellence competition for 2001 student media.
