As D.C. residents plan their New Year’s Eve festivities, the Washington Area Metro Transit Authority is warning metro riders to take caution after a night of partying.
After six drunk metro riders have fallen down elevators, onto tracks, or from high platforms over the past two months, WMATA is warning riders to take a cab if they have had too many drinks to safely ride the trains.
“The point here is that there is such a thing as too drunk to be on Metro,” Metro spokesman Dan Stessel told The Washington Post.
On Christmas Day, a man fell from an upper platform at L’Enfant Plaza and remains in the hospital for severe head and neck injuries. A second man fell at L’Enfant Plaza on Monday and was hospitalized with a blood alcohol content three times above the legal limit, Stessel said.
Metro will run until 2 a.m. on New Year’s Eve.
