Best place to see the cherry blossoms: Tidal Basin

Independence Avenue, SW

OK, OK, so this isn’t technically in Northwest D.C. But we – and readers – think the best place to see cherry blossoms in the city is the Tidal Basin. If you want to be a stickler for the rules, stay on the National Mall. You won’t be disappointed either way.

Sure, the Tidal Basin will be swarmed with tourists. But even local Washingtonians know it’s the best spot to see the blooms. More than 1.5 million people will come see the white and pink blossoms every year – so while this isn’t the most creative spot on our list, it’s still worth it for that perfect photo.

The Tidal Basin in springtime also makes for excellent people watching – you might see a wedding, proposal or a business meeting in the grass.

With a perfect view of the monuments and a full view of the trees at their peak, the Tidal Basin is the perfect spot to soak in this beautiful D.C. tradition.

Readers’ pick: Tidal Basin
