Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde from the Washington Episcopal Diocese places ashes on the forehead of a commuter Wednesday morning outside the Foggy Bottom Metro station. Hundreds received ashes as part of the annual Catholic tradition that marks the beginning of Lent. The principal church for the diocese, which spans 88 congregations in the Beltway area, is the Washington National Cathedral.

We at St. Paul’s, K Street between 24th & 25th were pleased that Bp. Budde joined us for this outreach initiative. We invite everyone from the GWU community to share our pilgrimage of faith. On Sundays, our main services are at 9 am & 11:15 am, and there’s a service of Evensong at 6 pm every Sunday. We are open every weekday for services at 6:45 am & 5:45 pm, and on Saturdays at 9:15 am. St. Paul’s is a place for you, 365 days of the year.
On Fridays in Lent, beginning February 22nd, I will be hosting a special series at 7 pm on C.S. Lewis’ “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” following the evening services at 5:45 and a free potluck dinner at 6:30. This is a great intergenerational series, open to all.
On Wednesdays in Lent, we will be exploring how we can be more open to the world around us. On February 27, Jason Evans, the diocesan missioner for young adults, will be focusing on how we might best reach out to the George Washington University, as well as strengthen our appeal to the many young adults who might choose to make their pilgrimage of faith with us. The Episcopal Church welcomes you!
