More than a handful of Metropolitan Police officers arrested a former student Thursday at The Avenue for intent to sell narcotics and possession of a semi-automatic rifle and ammunition.
In a raid of a fifth-floor apartment, officers took the 25-year-old – unnamed in police documents – into custody after discovering the unregistered gun, ammunition, amphetamine and heroin.
The suspect was previously enrolled at GW, University Police Chief Kevin Hay said.
University spokeswoman Candace Smith declined to provide the time frame of his enrollment, his name or whether or not he graduated by publication time.
With a search warrant from D.C. Superior Court, at least six members of the Narcotics Special Investigations Division, entered the apartment Thursday evening at 6:08 p.m. They were armed with machine guns as they stormed the building.
They found a “plastic freezer bag containing brown powder,” which tested positive for heroin, and an unspecified amount of pills, according to the documents.
Officers exited the apartment complex at about 7:25 p.m. with the handcuffed 6-foot-2-inch suspect.

These are the dumbest arguments. Guess what people make their own decisions and they have consequences. It doesn’t matter whether or not your name comes out on the newspaper this shit is still on your record should a school or employer do a simple background check. These people decided to “ruin” their own lives.

And when his name hits the street after being published by the trial court and in the MPD crime blotter…then what? Can the Hatchet publish his name then, or is it still off-limits?

Yes John, that’s the basis of our legal system. And if a newspaper says someone committed a crime and it turns out to be untrue, they are subject to a defamation suit. That’s why the terms “allegedly” and the like are used.
Bottom line, the public has a right to know who the police they pay are arresting. And the Hatchet has a duty to report on the outcome of cases.
