UW paper was actually about how uprooting olive trees is used as a tactic of intimidation and silent warfare by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank and how ultimately these and other tactics, like planting efforts by the Jewish National Fund, have altered the identity of the Palestinian landscape.

Yes, but what percentage of Jerusalem is East Jerusalem? And speaking from experience, how many olive trees - or any trees, for that matter - can be found in East Jerusalem? It has nothing to do with how the Israeli government dictates urban planning, it has to do with the culture of building communities as twisted and windy paths of dirt and cement (that is meant to be a physical description, not an opinion) (same building culture as a number of neighboring countries)

Interesting article- It's great to see where a student's journey leads after being awarded a fellowship.

So nice to see politically correct terms used here in the Hatchet: "occupation of Jerusalem" is a misnomer: Jerusalem is a part of Israel proper - not a territory, and not occupied. Further, read some history: Jerusalem has been home to olive trees for millennia...maybe that's why there are olive trees there.
