Program Board taps State Radio to lead Fountain Fling

State Radio, an alternative rock band from Massachusetts, will headline the 2010 Fountain Fling, Program Board Executive Vice Chair Wesley Callahan said late Wednesday night.

The band, led by Chad Stokes Urmston – a former member of the band Dispatch – will perform April 24 on the Mount Vernon Quad. The event is scheduled to run from 3 to 8 p.m., according to PB’s Web site, and will be free.

“PB and Mount Vernon Programming Council are both pleased to have rock band State Radio performing at Fountain Fling. This is the second year that PB and MVPC have worked together to bring students an end of the year celebration on the Mount Vernon campus,” Callahan said in an e-mail.

Last year Spoon headlined the event, which was billed as a combination of the PB’s traditional Spring Fling and Mount Vernon’s Fountain Day.

The band’s most recent album, “Let it Go,” was released in September 2009 and its first album, “Us Against the Crown,” was released in 2005. State Radio opened for The Dave Matthews Band in 2008.

GW is one of seven stops on the band’s Save My Oceans tour, which advocates against plastic pollution, overfishing, and global warming.
