As The Hatchet's own poll this week made abundantly clear, GW is a liberal campus. However, conservatives everywhere at GW know that the College Republicans have been leading the fight this year to make our stance on the issues known, even to none-too-friendly liberal ears.
Last week, our organization held a phenomenally successful - even by GW standards - "NObama" BBQ in Kogan Plaza that fed over 700 people and aided droves of College Republicans who signed up for absentee ballots. The Associated Press and the Washington Times were on hand to cover the event. Our year kicked off with Rep. Cliff Stearns of Florida and College Republicans National Chairman Charlie Smith.
Next week we welcome to campus former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, who will discuss the 2008 campaign and rally our members for his friend and former colleague, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
On the presidential campaign front, this year alone our organization has led the charge in Virginia, having made thousands of calls and canvassed hundreds of homes for the McCain campaign. At the close of this campaign, our organization will be deploying more members to Ohio on the RNC 72-hour task force than any other College Republicans chapter in America.
Next weekend, our chapter will be leading the D.C. federation of College Republicans to Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional District to fight for Chris Hackett's bid in one of the most hotly contested congressional races this election cycle.
Make no mistake about it: The GW College Republicans are on the front lines of this election. Our organization, along with millions of other College Republicans from all across the nation, is going to make the difference in this election at the grassroots level.
Clearly, the GW College Republicans Executive Board is rallying CR members to get involved this election. Remember, the only poll that matters is the one on Election Day.
Sen. John McCain has taken on political parties and fought for his country his entire life. He has used change, not to promote his career, but to promote the interests of those he serves, and he'll do that as president.
Sen. McCain will limit government waste, empower businesses to get our economy moving again and lead us to energy independence. He gives America real reason to hope for change in Washington and reform in government. Don't hope for a better future; vote for one.
We urge our fellow CR members and McCain supporters to stand up and fight until Election Day. Wear a McCain button, put up a McCain sign, but most importantly, get out and vote. For someone who has spent his entire life fighting for his country, the least we can do is get out and fight for him.
