With the graduation of the great Tuffy Leemans after the 1935 season, the Colonials may have expected a let-down from their 1930s run of success. But instead GW posted a school-best mark of 7-1-1.
The Colonials outscored their first two opponents 66-0, then tied the favored University of Mississippi 0-0. GW followed that with an upset of the University of Arkansas and a win over Wake Forest University that was only secured when GW’s Jay Turner dragged two defenders over the goal line for the go-ahead score after time had expired.
