Sigma Chi Timeline

July 1998: GW suspended the Sigma Chi fraternity for one year after holding a party during Colonial Inauguration. During this time, this chapter was asked to clean house before presenting to the Interfraternity Council and University for renewed recognition.

August 1998: GW chapter maintained its charter under show cause policy, which means Sigma Chi brothers had to prove why they were worthy of retaining the charter.

September 1999: Student Judicial Services prohibited Sigma Chi from presenting to the Interfraternity Council for renewed recognition after Sigma Chi missed the deadline to file paperwork regarding an alcohol-related incident.

A couple of weeks later the Interfraternity Council voted to encourage the University to renew recognition with certain conditions.

February 2000: After a hazing incident, Sigma Chi's international organization indefinitely suspended the Sigma Chi charter, ending the University's relationship with the fraternity.
